17 WOMEN BOUND OVER LONDON, Juno 21. How a crowd which gathered when r. lorry laden with goods valued at £2,000 caught fire on the roadside nt Northampton pilfered almost everything was told ty. the local police-court yesterday, when IS women and a man wore charged with theft. It was stated that the articles stolen included psalters, forms for registering banns of marriage, baptismal
registers, cheque books, novels, women’s underwear and handbags. Between two and three hundred people rushed the lorry ami took what they liked. Harry Clifford, the driver, said ho was powerless to prevent the rush of the crowd and the pilfering. Two or three women took away goods in perambulators. Fifteen women were found guilty of theft and two of receiving. They were bound over and ordered to pay 15/costs each. Two women and the man were found not guilty.
