MAHENO’S STRANDING

NO HOPE OF SALVAGE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] BRISBANE, July 12. There was no attempt to-day to salvage the Maheno. The tug Carlock reached the scene this morning, but she was later discharged by the Jap - anese master of the Oonah, who has charge of both vessels. A later message states that Captain Tanaka, master of the Maheno, had reported that the Mahcno’s back was broken, and that there was no hope of saving her. The seas are again, rough. It is impossible to estimate the full extent of the damage to the Maheno. LATER. It is now reported the Maheno has not broken her back, but is believed to be seriously damaged. It will not be long before her back will be broken as the result of the heavy pounding.
