GREYMOUTH NOMINATIONS

THREE MAYORAL CANDIDATES CONTESTS FOR ALL BODIES Nominations closed at noon, to-day, for the municipal elections to be held at Greymouth on May 8, and there will be contests in each case. The Mayoralty will be contested by three candidates, there are twelve aspirants to the nine seats on the Greymouth Borough Council, ten candidates for | five seats as Borough representatives on the Grey Hospital Board, and six candidates for four seats on the Grey Power Board.

For at least twenty years, the position of Mayor has not been so greatly in demand as to attract three candidates. Mr J. W. Greenslade is not again offering his services. Mr Kitchingham was Deputy-Mayor during the term of the last Council.

Of the Borough Council candidates, Messrs Barry, Carroll, Harker, Paterson and Stent are fresh aspirants, the remainder being members of the Council which is just completing its term of office. Members not seeking re-election are Messrs F. B. Lawn, J. S. Robertson, R. Marley, F. L. Turley, and F. A. Kitchinghain, the two lastnamed being Mayoral candidates. New candidates for election to the Hospital Board are Messrs Arthur, Boustridge, Morgan, Naylor and McKane. All the previous municipal representatives are seeking re-election.

Three of the six candidates for the Power Board, Messrs Carroll, McCarthy, and McKane, were not previously members of that body. Mr J. W. Greenslade did not seek re-election. There are 12 candidates for five seats as County members on the Buller Hospital Board, as follow: —Michael Clark, Henry Llewellyn Evans, Robert Finlayson, .lames Griffiths, Richard Hawes, William 11. Mclntyre, John Noble Niven, Andrew Phillips, John Henry Powell, Ivor Llewellyn Tyler, William Ryan Simpson, and Harold Watson. The previous representatives are Messrs Mclntyre, Finlayson, Griffiths, Hawes, and Niven. Messrs Clark and Evans are nominees of the miners’ organisations. NELSON. NELSON, April 24. Mi-. G. L. Gage and Dr. 11. E. A. Washbourn have been nominated for tho Mayoralty. There are seventeen candidates nominated for tire nine City Council seats. This is tho largest number since 1925, when there were 19. The list is: W. Black, S. A. Gibbs, S. H. Moynagh, E. R. Neal, G. P. Russell,. J. B. Carr, L. R. Cotton, J. A. Day, J. Fitz Gerald, J. Glasgow, W. B. Griffin, H. G. B. Hurst, S. McArthur, L. C. Pettit, F. H. Sharland, J. W. Simpson and F. W. O. Smith. The first five-named are members of the present Council. There are three candidates for the Blenheim Mayoralty: Bernard James Cook, Christopher Timothy Smith, and John Stevenson. The sitting Mayor, Malcolm Mackenzie, who has been in office for ten years, is retiring. There are eleven candidates for nine seats on the Council. At Picton, G. J. kiddell was returned unopposed for a further term as Mayor. There are ten candidates for nine Council seats. CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, April 26.
