GIRL’S FACE REBUILT

“FINEST PIECE OF WORK.” A marvel of modern surgery was described to Mr Justice Humphreys at Bucks Assizes recently, when a 12j car-old girl. Cynthia Wilson, of Withy Spring, Farnham Common. Bucks, was, through her father, plaintiff in a ease arising out of a motoring accident. She was injured in a collision with a motor-car when cycling. The defendants were Messrs W. Lamb and Co., of Slough. A settlement of Xl.OuO and taxed costs was approved by the judge. Mr A. Ward, for the girl, said there were fears tor her life for many days —in fact, the doctors and nurses were actually praying that she might die. Her head was battered, her face broken open, and her jaws broken. “It is one of the finest pieces of wcik, 1 think," said Mr Ward, "that Sir Harold Gillies (the surgeon) has ever done. lie has built up this child’s face and the dentist has built up the mouth." Counsel produced photographs showing the girl with a normal head and face, and added, "It has been very expensive treatment, and the father hae incurred or must incur altogether a sum of £650.”
