EX-SOLDIERS’ UNEMPLOYMENT

BRITISH LEGION EFFORT

[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.]

RUGBY, March 20.

The Prince of Wales inaugurated at the Mansion House, the British Legion Employment Week, the object of which is to induce the employers to take on more unemployed ex-service men.

Addressing a prominent gathering which included the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lord Mayor of London, the Labour Ministers and Admiral Jellicoe, the Prince said he appreciated all that employers had done already to absorb ex-servicement. but unfortunately there were still many thousands who were out of work. He hoped that these men would be given their share in the economic revival. Last year, the British Legion filled 46,000 vacancies, and he hoped with the assistance of municipal and local authorities and private employers of labour, there would be a big increase in this number- in the present jubilee year.

A TYNESIDE SCHEME

The proposed quay will be 1,400 feet long, and will provide berths 'for ships up to 30,000 tons. The river bod is being dredged to 35 feet at low water. The latest type of machinery will be installed for quick loading and discharge of cargo.
