SAFETY ZONE

(TO TUB BDITOB.] Sir, —Some of, the present members of the Greymouth Borough Council never seem to be ■willing to let well alone. After much delay and agitation, the old Band Rotunda has at last been removed from Boundary Street, and there is no doubt that a great menace to the safety of traffic has been done away with. But some of the Councillors are not satisfied, and they immediately propose the erection of what they call a safety-zone, in the middle of the street, where the rotunda stood. They have got rid of one danger, but they want to construct another. There is not sufficient traffic to warrant the construction of a safety zone on Boundary Street; on the other hand, such a zone, constructed of concrete, would constitute a definite danger. Can it be that one of the Councillors advocating the zone, wants to provide seating accommodation for those citizens who used to make the steps of the band rotunda their regular parking place? If so, there are already plenty of seats available on McGinley Park. Strong protests should bo made against the construction of the socalled safety zone, before it becomes an accomplished fact. —I am, etc., LET WELL ALONE
