EDUCATION GRANTS
DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTER

WELLINGTON, March 21
A request that the Government should reinstate grants to the Workers’ Educational Association was made to Mr. Smith by a deputation from the Dominion Council of the Association.
Air. Smith, replying, said that ho always had been sympathetic with this movement. The cancellation of the grants was a matter of Government policy. The question of restoration was now before the Government, and the Association would be advised at the earliest possible moment of the Cabibnt's decision. A second deputation to the Minister was one from the Wellington School Committees’ Federation. asking for increased capitation grants. Mr. Smith said he desired to do the best possible for all the children of New Zealand, but was hampered by a lack of funds. He desired to go into tho whole matter and discuss details with the Wellington Education Board.
