WATER BOARD ELECTION. SYDNEY, March 21. The Water Board Election (Postponement) Bill was passed by the Upper House.
WHEAT-SHIP BEACHED ADELAIDE, March 21. Leaking badly in all holds, the Japanese freighter, Portland Mani, fully loaded with a cargo of wheat for the East, was beached half a mile from the shore on a short treacherous stretch of shingle off Cape Torrens. She has been in danger of foundering after battling against heavy seas.
TOADS v. PESTS
BRISBANE, March 21.
Sugar experimental stations propose to import into Queensland giant, toads to control sugar-cane pests. An attempt will be made to breed toads, after which the first generation will be liberated in the grub-infested areas.
