KUMARA NOTES

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] At the annual meeting of the Kumara Women’s Institute, Mrs Reedy presided over a good attendance. Mrs Black (West Coast President) was a visitor.

The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: President, Mrs Peever; secretary, Miss A. Hamer (re-elected); treasurer, Miss Watson; committee, Mrs M. Rochford, Mrs Wise, Mrs McGettigan, Mrs Fensom, Mrs Reedy, Airs West, Airs Rooney and Airs Cooper. Mrs Wise and Mrs Cooper were appointed as delegates to the halfyearly council meeting to be held next month at Greymouth.

Presentations were made to Mrs Peever for gaining the highest number of points in the competitions during the year. Airs Rochford was second and Aliss Hamer third. The competition for the day was the best pot of jam, Mrs Rochford being first, Mrs Pierson second and Airs Peever third.

Mrs Kelso, Dominion organiser of Women’s Institutes, will visit Kumara on Monday, March 25. The Institute donated £l/1/- to the Mayor’s Fund to supplement Lord Nuffield’s gift to New Zealand’s crippled children.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Airs McGettigan, Alias Steel and Aliss Watson.
