N.Z. RUGBY “STARS”

WANTED BY LEAGUE

NEW SOUTH WALES SCHEME [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Received February 26, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 26. A Rugby League scheme, to bait New Zealand Rugby Union players, in an endeavour to foster the League code in New Zealand, was propounded at the New South Wales League’s gen-' eral meeting. The delegates had under consideration the possible advancement of the code in New Zealand. The secretary (Mr. Miller) said that the game had been badly retarded in New Zealand, and that each touring side from the Dominion to Australia had lost approximately £l,OOO. Mr. H. Benning said that the last New Zealand side was just a pleasure tour for “old buffers.” Mr. Benning moved that the New South Wales League suggest to the Board of Coutrol that an Australian side be sent to NewZealand in September, and that three months beforehand the accredited organiser of the New South Wales League be sent to New Zealand, with £5OO, to organise, and to buy, if necessary, three “star” Rugby Union players, to appear against the Australian side. The delegates agreed to send the proposal on to the Board.
