WAIUTA NOTES
[OUB OWN COBBEBPONDENT-] A wedding o£ considerable interest to Blackball and Waiuta residents was celebrated at Totaia Flat recently,of Theresa (Tess) Kennedy, second daughter ot the late Mr M. Kennedy and Mrs D. Thompson, of Waiuta, and Jchn Malcolm, eldest son of Mr and Mis A. Smith, Blackball. The Rev. A. Richards officiated. The bride was wearing a biscuit-coloured ensemble, and carried a dainty handbag to match her frock. She was attended Ly hei sister, Miss Kath. Kennedy, who wore a navy blue ensemble. She carried a small bouquet of blue flowers. Mr Geo. Smith was best man. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr M. Kennedy. A reception was held at the residence of the bride’s mother, who was wearing a dainty frock of navy blue crinkle crepe, while the bridegroom’s mother was wearing a frock of maroon elephant crepe. Miss Jean Douglas, R. E. Stewart and M. Scott (Dunedin) are visiting the latter’s parents for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Mr A. Cruickshanks, who has been visiting Hokitika and Greymouth, has returned. Mr R. Williams has left for Hokitika, to attend the Jubilee celebrations. Mrs Hagen and Misses Dora and Jean Hagen are on a visit from Auckland. The first R.S.A. children’s Christmas Tree and entertainment was held in the Miners’ Hall on Friday evening last. The position of Santa Clauds was ably filled by Mr W. Stansbury. As the President of the R.S.A. (Mr E. J. Rose) called the names of each child, Santa Claus handed over a toy and some oranges and sweets. There was also plenty for the kiddies to eat and drink, and a programme of dancing and games was thoroughly enjoyed. Later, the adults enjoyed some dancing, and social items were contributed by Messrs J. Scott, G. Williams, W. G. Staples and Miss Nora Rose. Supper was provided, and Mr E. J. Rose was M.C. The music for dancing was provided by Mrs D. Mallinson and Messrs H. Dodds, Heward and lan Watt. During the evening -the President expressed appreciation of the Reefton R.S.A. in donating a substantial sum towards the Waiuta Christmas Tree and distressed diggers. He also announced that Mr W. Rutledge was the winner of the Christmas hamper.
