To-day’s Racing News

Galloping ' MEETINGS TO COME. December 29 — Manawatu December 29—Westland R.C. January 1, 2— Auckland R.C. January I—Waikouaiti R.C. January 1. —Wyndham. January 1, 2.—Greymouth. • January 1, 2.—Hawke’s Bay. January 1, 2.—Stratford. January 1, 2.—Marton. January 1, 2.—Wairarapa. January 2.—Oamaru. January 2, 3. —Southland. * January 9, 10. —Reefton. AT HOKITIKA TO-MORROW. THE FIELDS AND PROSPECTS. With an acceptance list much larger than on the opening, day, and fields more likely to provide for two dividends in each event, the Westland Racing Club has reason to anticipate a successful conclusion to its midsummer meeting, to-morrow. The Westland Cup Handicap has drawn a good field,: and the other events have filled to a satisfactory, number. The acceptances, with prospects, and starting times, are as follow: — 12.15.

On first day’s form, Blacklead should be equal to disposing of the opposition, from those he met on Wednesday. There are three engaged, however, that did not race on the first day, Delice, Copenna and Parazel. Of these. Delice must be given consideration. At the North Canterbury meeting, last October, he was second in a field much stronger than this. Copenna has been doing all required of her in work, and can be expected to run well. She ran second on the course last Easter, and is now a much improved mare. Other than Backlead, Delice, and Copenna, the prospects do not appear bright, and confining the race to two the best may be Copenna Delice

Arrowmid won so well over, seven furlongs on Wednesday, that the increased poundage will not trouble hei over a furlong shorter distance. She is endowed with a lot of speed, and her customary strong finishing effort will again be in evidence. Margaret Rose has all the weight she can carry, and may be found stopping over the final bit. Patrole has a stone more to carry, but is equal to it. Cheap Money cannot be recommended, after finishing last on Wednesday. Monipere will probably start in the Cup, in which he looks to have a great winning chance. Riptide and Wino are a useful pair, and given a better passage than on Wednesday, Wino should go close to scoring. Epris is the likely lightweight. This is an even y ' balanced field, several being worthy oi a thought, but form points to Arrowmid Patrole

Atarau King should.be class enough to tick off a win in this event. He is not brilliant, but will not require to be, to hold this lot in check. sobel Derbv and Minnetonka raced at the recent New Brighton meeting, and Myra Chenault collected a third placing at Banks Peninsula. In such a ,y a( j ea surprise is likely, but there wiL be strong support for Atarau King Myra Chenault

Riri gave a poor showing over a mile and a-quarter on Wednesday, and k would be expecting almost too much o° an improvement to enable him win here. Weatherly could not get near Monipere over the distance on the first day, and the seven pounds adVantage in weight to him to-morrow is not likely to reverse the positions be Iweon the t alr. White Doo w, 11 _bo improved with hei lace, and weH, but Little Doubt cannot be considered. Wise Choice is v ell, <nd capable of running out a fast m . Earthquake will need to started here, Monipere shomd com mand heavy support, and first. daj s form points to his being vei y < j heat Lady Rene and Rose vai uo S appeal. The issue may rest between

Monipere Wise Choice

Rnvni Ainnhorn will clnim np S” C a S begtaner that lie. will be hard to dispose of, and the five and a hal furlongs will enable him to see out the race at top speed all the way. Maigaret Rote will probably be m.ssmg from this field. Arrowmid is a likely one if selected for this event, and Arrowrose will be improved with Wednesday’s race. Two that should run well are — Royal Sceptre, Arrowrose.

A. new" comer in Importance will add interest to this race. Importance has failed to strike form this season, but his efforts last season stamped him as being of good average class. Rose Vai will be better suited in this than the Cup race, and Arctic Star is capable of improvement on Wednesday’s running. In the absence of Moni-

pere, a pair that warrant support are: Importance, Rose Vai. 5.0. Woodstock Trot, 3.43 class, 1J miles. Atarau King .. scr Myra Chenault scr Forest Maiden .. scr Royal Time .. 12 Isobel Derby . . scr Superb .. .. Minnetonka .. set Form in the first trot is likely to provide a guide for this event, and if good efforts are shown earlier, there will be support for Atarau King and Myra. Chenault. Superb is equal to giving a start, and off 36 yards must be considered. The two likely to make an interesting race are— Superb, Atarau King. 5.45. County Welter Handicap, 7 fur. —

The meeting will conclude with the County Handicap, and a strong field is likely to go to the post. Animated is the only one without a prior engagement. Running in the earlier events will throw light on prospects here, but at the handicaps, as they now stand, a pair that should run well are— Wise Choice, Animated. DUNEDIN—SECOND DAY. CONCLUDING RESULTS. DUNEDIN, December 27. Steady rain throughout the day affected the attendance at the second day of the Dunedin J.C. meeting. The' track was not affected for the early races, and in the First Hurdles Black Duke knocked two-fifths of a second off the track record for the mile and a-half, his time being 2.45 3-5. ’The tote handled £10,582i for the day, compared with £10,488 for the second day last year, making a total of £25.237 for the meeting, compared with £24,420 last year.
