RUSSIAN SENTENCES
EX-LEADERS BANISHED
[by CABLE PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, December 24. The “News-Chronicle’s” Riga correspondent says: Sentences of banishment, in lieu of death sentences, have been imposed on Zinoviev and Kamenev, and also on five of their associates. The “News-Chronicle” adds: The sentence is duo to their having been members of. Lenin’s pre-revolutionary band, to their long record in revolutionary work during the Czarist regime, in which all suffered imprisonment. It is a mistake to suggest that Stalin’s regime is jeopardised or even challenged. RASPUTIN’S DAUGHTER LONDON. December 23. The “News Chronicle” says that Maria Rasputin, daughter of Russia’s mad monk, arrived in London from Liverpool, where she spent a week acclimatising fifteen tigers, with which she will appear at a Christmas circus in the Agricultural Hall. She became a tiger tamer in Pans in 1930, in order to support herself and her daughters, aged 12 and 14. She married a Royal Russian Guardsman, when 151. but he died in a paupers’ hospital in Paris, in 1924. Her mother and onlv brother were exiled to Siberia and have not communicated with her since 1931. Her only sister was poisoned at a banquet two years after the death of Rasputin, whose memory Maria honours, because he “was generous to the poor and laughed, danced, sang and played, despite parental strictness.” “They say I am very like father, and I am glad,” added Maria.
