The deaths are announced from Wellington, of Mr John Strauchoiji, ex-Under Secretary for Lands, aged 86, and of Maria Maude Cockayne, widow of the late Dr L. Cockayne, C.M.G. —Press Assn.

Right Rev. Dr. Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, will arrive to-day, to attend the Hokitika Jubilee celebrations. He will be accompanied by Rev. Father Maguire, formerly of Greymouth.

The death has occurred at Singleton, New South Wales, of Sister Mary Baptist, after an illness extending over several months. The deceased who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs M. McDonnell, and a native of Greymouth, had been in the Singleton Convent of Mercy for the past thirty-five years. Mr E. McDonnell, Alexander Street, is a brother.

The King and Queen at a special audience at Buckingham Palace on Saturday, said good-bye to Superintendent William Cole, the detective who has been responsible for the personal safety of the King at all times during the last fourteen years. The King invested him with the badge of a member of the Victorian Order. Superintendent Cole is succeeded by Inspector Green, who for several years has been police officer to the Queen.— Official Wireless.

The wedding took place this morning, of Miss Una Annie Glover, daughter of Mr George Glover, and the late Mrs Glover, of Ru Ru, to Albert John Kennedy, son of Mr and Mrs John Kennedy, also of Ru Ru. Rev. Father Gregory performed the ceremony. Miss Hilda Johnston was bridesmaid, and Mr Hugh Blanchfield was best man. The newlymarried couple left by the express foi Auckland.
