TEST TENNIS
AUSTRALIAN VICTORY. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, December 23. Having won every match in the first three days of the international triangular tennis contest, Australia ■is in an unassailable position. There was a capacity crowd present on Saturday for the games, which were played in very hot weather. Results: Singles: Hughes (England) defeated Brugnon (France) 6/3, 6/3; McGrath (Australia), defeated Boussus (France) 7/5, 3/6. 6/3; Crawford (Australia) defeated Perry (England) 6/0, 6/4. Doubles: Crawford and McGrath defeated Perry and Hughes 6/1, 6/2, 7/5. The Hughes versus Brugnon match was a patchy affair. Brugnon tired badly. Delightful tennis featured the McGrath v. Boussus match, each concentrating on the other’s weaknesses, but McGrath’s forehand stood up better than Boussus’s backhand. Perry gave a pathetic display in the first set against Crawford, netting and oil ing simple returns. Crawford, on the other hand, was in great touch off either hand. He served deep to the corners, forcing Perry to make defensive returns, from which Crawford scored with placements. Perry steadied in the second set, and followed good length drives into, the net, where ho volleyed his way to a 3/0 and 4/2 lead; but then errors by Perry and hard serving by Craw’ford enabled the hitter to take four games in a row for the match. The Australian pair completely outplayed the Englishmen in the doubles, Hughes being a weak link. ADELAIDE RESULTS. ADELAIDE, December 23. Tn the international tennis matches here, Menzel defeated Turnbull 4/6, 6/3, 6/2. Menzel volleyed dashingly, and displayed uncanny courtcraft. Quist defeated Maier 6/4, 7/5.
