SHOWMAN KILLED
BITE OF TIGER SNAKE. SYDNEY, December 10. Julius Mitchell, 58, of Little-street, Balmain, a showman, who used the professional name of “Gus Leighton,” died in Newcastle Hospital last night, from the effects of a tiger snake bite. Mitchell was bitten while exhibiting his snakes at either Kurri Kurri or Cessnock. He treated the bite with a preparation which he* carried. The treatment appeared to be successful, and he was able to drive a motor car back to Newcastle, .where he had his temporary headquarters. Soon after his arrival here he became violently ill. The venom had already almost blinded him when he was admitted to hospital yesterday afternoon.
