To-day’s Racing News

Trotting MEETINGS T’O COME. December 26 —Gore T.C. December 26—Wairarapa T.C, December 26 —Ashburton T.C. December 26, 27—Westport T.C. December 27, 29, 31 —Auckland T.C. December 29 —Winton T.C. January 1, 2—Canterbury Park T.C. January 3 —Westland T.C. January 4, s—Greymouth T.C. January 7 —Reefton T.C. January 12—Wellington T.C. January 19—Timaru T.C. January 26—N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. January 31, February 2—Forbury Park T.C.

The Problem:

There will be enough pacers and trotters in action during the next two cr three weeks to horse an army, "but it will be a case of find the few for happy results.

Fast Workout: In a. workout last week by Auburn Lad, Willie Derby, Jewel Pointer, and Auto Machine, the speed was clapped on over the final half-mile. Jewel Pointer was driven right out and put up lmin 1 3-ssec. Auburn Lad went his last half in lmin 2 l-ssec., and the final quarter in 29 3-ssec.

Will be Supported: With 9 success to his credit at his last start, Waikato Prince is sure to come in for plenty of support if paraded for the Selby Handicap' at Epsom next week. A solid trotter, Waikato Prince is possessed of a fine turn of speed, and he should not return without paying expenses.

G.N. Derby Candidate: The three-year-old Superfine is working fairly solidly at Epsom, and the filly should develop into a useful pacer. Superfine holds an engagement in the December Handicap for improvers, but she may need experience, and consequently will not be fancied. Has a Chance:

Peter Junior is reported to be working in great style at Takanini, and the Peter Chenault gelding should show up at the Auckland meeting. On the first day he is engaged in the Akarana Handicap, and W. Clifton’s charge may provide a surprise.

Proving Disappointing: Once again Ando Patch ruined his chances by breaking at the start of the Elstow Handicap at the Te Aroha meeting, and he is proving a very disappointing horse to his connections. He is possessed of a great burst of speed for a. novice trotter, but until he learns to control his gait he cannot be recommended as a betting proposition. A Brilliant Pacer:

Having beaten War Buoy at his last start, Tempest should prove a formidable contender in the Grandstand Handicap at the Auckland meeting. Tempest has only resumed racing again this season after a long spell, and he has ' undoubtedly returned better than ever.

A Likely Improver: Great Chum is doing his work in great style at Epsom, and the bay pacer will parade in first-class order at the Auckland meeting. At his last start Great Chum finished third to Transworthy and Nelson Luvan in the Improvers’ Handicap at the Auckland meeting in October, on that occasion coming from a fair way back in the run home. Great Chum is a likely improver. WAIRARAPA FIELDS. MASTERTON, December 20. Sure to Improve: At her best Imamint can hold her own with most of them up to a mile, and she is worth keeping in mind during the next few months.

Likely Hurdler: Tho Hiker is entered for the New Year Hurdles at the Auckland summer meeting, and in his present condition is a possibility in that event.

Engi in Good Order: Tho Lapidary gelding has previously shown a lot of 'speed in his races, and now that he is staying on better more successes look assured for him.

Speedy Jumper: Record Flight is endowed with more pace than tho majority of hurdlers, and with further experience is likely to develop into a good proposition as a jumper. Astarth Soon:

This filly has raced prominently on several occasions, but usually finds something just a shade too good for her. As Astarth is only a three-year-old improvement in her form can be expected, and she may not be long off the winning list.

Showed Plenty of Speed: Chief Lap, who has done little racing this season, displayed a lot of pace in the Kihikihi Handicap at Waipa. Chief Lap’s only engagement at the Auckland meeting is in the County Handicap, seven furlongs, to be run on New Year’s Day.

Galilee is Well: A. Cook has Galillee looking a picture, and her appearance indicates that she has trained on well since winning the Avondale Stakes. . It should not be for lack of condition, if she fails to race well on Boxing Day.

King’s Knave: King’s Knave was not entered tor the Auckland Cup, which was rather surprising in view of the fact that he was second in that race last V eal - But he is fast getting back to form and he looks a likely handicap winner on the later days of the Auckland fixture.

Riders for Hokitika: W H. Jones, S. Watson, and G. Salt -will be at the Hokitika meeting, and available for riding engagements. Jones has already been booked for Rose Vai, and Salt for Rotokino, and Riri.

Wanganui Cup Reinstated': • It has (been decided to reinstate the Wanganui Cup, which has been dropped since 1930. A stake of 250 sovs will go <vith the race to be run on January 31, 1935.

Croupier at Randwick: Croupier is sprinting with all his old brilliancy at Randwick, and recently reeled off two furlongs in 24g sec. The fact of being a roarer, does not seriously hamper a horse’s speed but they do not stay on. A horse operated on for respiratory troubles has won the Liverpool Grand National Steeples and marks a triumph of the veterinary surgeon’s art, but. when there is “bellows to mend” a punter’s money is best kept in the pocket.

A Good Wind Up: A. Russell, who piloted Cricket Bat when he won the Duke of Gloucester Handicap, was . in the last day of his term of apprenticeship to F. D. Jones. The Short Rein:

The Duke of Gloucester remarked upon the short rein and hold that New Zealand riders used as compared with the long rein in England. He doesn’t know that it is the only means by which some of them can save themselves from falling off. r Red Manfred: Red Manfred slipped and fell at Trentham on Saturday morning, and it was considered inadvisable to start him in the Bledisloe Stakes.

King March: In spite of the fact that he wms back from Sydney only 10 days, King March won the Te Awamutu Cup in impressive fashion (says the

‘Herald”). He is a mass of ,condiion and. is now certain to come into

’avour for the Auckland Cup. He is i fine stayer and in his present form

should run two miles better than most of the horses he will meet at Ellerslie on Boxing Day.

In the Money: K. Voitre was riding well at Trentham on Saturday. He failed to win a race but after filling third place on the two-year-old Legatee, he wound up the day by filling second place in the last three events of the day on Lady Kyra, Diatomous, and Courtega.;

The two last-named participated in the English Derby of 1934. They are coming to Mr. Percy Miller, of New South Wales. Manitoba is, coming to Mr. A. T. Creswick, of Victoria.

RUFE NAYLOR’S APPEAL.

SYDNEY, December 20

The Full Bench of the Supreme Court (Mr Justice Harvey dissenting) to-day allowed an appeal by Rufe Nayloi’ against the Australian Jockey • Club, and dismissed an appeal by the Australian Jockey Club against Naylor. They arose out of the action taken in May last. This means that Naylor now has the right to enterRandwick racecourse from the first day of the next law term. Justice Davidson declared that the Jockey Club by-law was too-widely expressed. Any person might be held to be not desirable for personal or any reasons, as to which the Jockey Club Committee would not be bound to state more than their general opinion as to undesirability.
