BLACKBALL NOTES

(OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Blackball Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held in the lodge room last evening. Bro. H. Bowkett presiding over a good attendance. Correspondence from the New Zealand and District Secretaries was dealt wi£h. Medical certificates were received as satisfactory. The Masonic Lodge was granted the use of the hall on Saturday for the Christmas Tree, and it was also decided to hold the Society’s own Christmas Tree on December 23. It was decided to support Rule 65 in regard to remitting overseas money. Bro. Robertson, Past District Grand Master, wished members, on behalf of the district, the compliments of the season, which was reciprocated by Bro. Bowkett, Noble Grand, and also in writing from the New Zealand, Grand Master, Bro. Archbold. Sick pay and accounts amounting to £ll 3/6 were passed for payment. The Blackball Primary School sports were held at the schoolground yesterday in beautiful weather. There was keen competition in almost every race. In honour of their marriage, Miss Edith Davey and Mr James Ibell were entertained by the residents of Roa, with the Roa Tennis Club, of which both are enthusiastic members, at a social evening and presented with a cheque. Mr McMahon wished them, •on behalf of the residents and club, every prosperity and happiness, and hoped that they would continue to do the good work they had done in the past both as citizens and tennis players. Mr Ibell suitably replied.

Mrs A. O’Donnell, of Roa, who has been on an extended holiday tour of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, will return home on Thursday. Mr and Mrs C. Page arrived yesterday on a brief holiday visit to Mrs S. Grindle, Stafford Street.

Mr J. McNicol, Main Road, was admited to the Grey Hospital on Thursday. Masters John Davies and Jas. Quinn (Nelson College) are spending their vacation with their respective parents. Miss Jenny Robertson leaves tomorrow for Christchurch to attend the wedding of Miss Jean Williamson, formerly of Blackball, to Mr W. Hadley, which takes place on December 22.
