BREAD TENDERS.
Fto the editor.! Sir,—With reference to the statement at the Grey Hospital Board’s meeting on Wednesday that no tenders were received for bread, we wish to state that all tenders were posted by 11 a.m„ one at least was posted by 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning. As It was ascertained from the Hospital office that their practice is to clear their private box at 9 o’clock and again at 1.30, it seems strange that on this particular day it was not cleared. Despite the fact that the House Manager assured our representative that the envelopes were in the office and it was usual to keep them in a case like this, yet when a complaint had been made re the non-delivery of these letters, the post office official endeavoured to obtain these envelopes in order to examine the time stamp, they had been destroyed. The Master Bakers are well satisfied with the present system of tendering and have po complaints whatever of the treatment they have received from the present Board and had no wish to ignore them and only ask you to publish this statement in order to dispel the impression created at last Wednesday’s meeting. Thanking you, Yours, etc. — WEST COAST MASTER BAKERS’ ASSOCIATION.
