RUNANGA NOTES
. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ’The pupils of the State School were treated to-a picnic at the Seven Mile, yesterday afternoon, and approximately 240 children, besides parents and friends, were present, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. The arrangements were in the hands of the Headmaster, Mr J. McLeod, and the teaching staff. Free ico cream, soft drinks, sweets and fruit were-provided and a sports programme and swimming were held. Motor transport was provided to carry the younger children home. The sea had left a natural swimming pool near the Esplanade and this was used to the fullest extent. Credit is due to the teaching staff, who put in a considerable amount of work, both in providing the refreshments and in controlling such a large assembly. On Tuesday, the children of the infant classes will be entertained at a. Christmas tree, and on Wednesday, the school will stage its breaking-up concert.
