VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIP QUIST DEFEATS PERRY [by cable—press assn.—copyright.] MELBOURNE, December 14. To-day’s tennis results were- — Women’s singles, semi-finals: Miss Hartigan beat Mrs. Hopman 6/8, 6/1, 7/5; Miss Round beat Miss Dearman 6/4, 8/6. Misses Round and Hartigan meet in the final of the woipen’s singles tomorrow. Men’s singles, semi-final: Quist defeated Perry 6/0, 6/2, 6/0. Quist played tennis worthy of a master of the game. He had perfect control over every stroke, and forced Perry into more errors than he has made in any match in 'Australia. The result was the greatest tennis surprise of the year. ■ Crawford defeated Stefani 6/1, 6/1, 6/8, 6/4. Crawford established a lead early and was never greatly troubled by Stefani. Crawford's driving and serving were superb. He will meet Quist in the final to-morrow-. The Kooyong courts were played on to-day for thd first time since the floods. Only two courts, however, were used, but they were in’ a remarkably go6d condition, though tricky owing to patches of silt. Though Miss Hartigan seemed to fear a defeat* she recovered confidence later, forcing the pace and winning, notwithstanding manw errors? Miss Round did not have things her own. way against’Miss Dearman, although she won the straight.sets, but took each with only a minimum margin. Her stroking was not as fluent as in several matches, and she lost noints in several double faults. Women’s Doubles: Miss Round and Mrs. Harper defeated Miss Hartigan and Mrs. Hopman 6/4, 3/6, 6/3. Men’s Doubles, Final: Crawford and Hopman versus Quist and Turnbull 6/3, 3/6, 6/4, 5/7, unfinished. They played till dark. The game was even and the result is doubtful. AUSTRALIA V. FRANCE. BRISBANE, December 14. In the International tennis tourney, Australia versus France, McGrath defeated Brugnon 3/6. 6/3, 6/3. Moon lost to Boussus 1/6, 6/4, 7/9. Moon and McGrath lost to Brugnon and Boussus 6/4, 6/4. 1/6, 2/6, 2/6.
