GRIFFIN to serve sentence. [BI CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] SYDNEY, December 14. Gerald Griffin’s appeal' against his sentence of six months’ imprisonment ‘ for being a prohibited immigrant, was withdrawn to-day and the Appeal Court Judge confirmed the conviction. He ordered Griffin to pay £4/4/costs. Griffin was conveyed to Parramatta Gaol. • It is announced that Griffin s counsel had applied to the Magistrate who heard the case to state a special Case for the opinion of the Supreme Court. , ~ . , Acting Justice Marlcell, in chambers, refused -an order permitting Kisch to appeal ■ against his recent conviction, he having failed to pass ! the dictation test in Gaelic. I The High Court. to-day granted a ' rule nisi returnable on Monday, stayin” further proceedings against Kisch as" a prohibited immigrant until the question of whether the Scottish dia- ’ lect in Gaelic could be termed a European language under the Commonwealth Immigration Act. Commonwealth police officers visited the Newsreel Theatre and seized a film of Kisch and Griffin, which included pictures of Kisch’s reception in Sydney.
