LIVERPOOL MINE DISPUTE

EARLY SETTLEMENT REACHED When the Liverpool miners arrived at, Rewanui this morning, they held a stop-work meeting. As a result, work was not started, the men returning home. A difference had arisen between the management, and Union officials, in regard to the building of a chock, in the mine. A chock is. an artificial support, placed crosswise between the floor and the roof, before commencing pillar extraction, to provide a further safeguard of the mine. A conference between the mine Superintendent, Mr. I. A. James, and Union officials was held this afternoon, and it was later announced that a settlement. had been reached. The fact that the mine was idle to-day will not. affect the working time for this week, as the mine holds orders for four days work, and it will resume to-morrow, and work through. James mine will be idle throughout this week.
