Mrs. H. Moore returned yesterday, from a holiday visit to Sydney and Melbourne. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Cunningham returned yesterday, from a holiday visit to Melbourne. Mr. and Mrs. J. Dimmick arrived yesterday, from Nelson. Mr. and Mrs. O’Brien, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. Sullivan, Kaimata, have left on return to Oran. General Smuts "has left Croydon on return to South Africa.—Official Wireless. Mr J G. Coates. Mr R. Masters and party, left Wellington, yesterday, by the Monowai, for Sydney. The death is announced from London of Brigadier-General H. E. B. Newenham, 'after a long illness through war injuries. He commanded the 2nd Fusiliers at the Gallipoli landing. He was severely wounded, and lost a leg. He was born in 186 b. The wedding was solemnised in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Hokitika, on Wednesday, by the Rev. H. R. Fell, of Greymouth, of Jessie Winning, daughter of Mr. G. Davidson, of Bealey Street, to Hpnry Leslie, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Hon. H. L. Michel, of Stafford Street. Miss G. King, cousin of the bride, was the bridesmaid, while Dr. E. Teichelmann attended the bridegroom. The death occurred last night, at his residence, Reefton, of James Williams, a native of Ross, aged. 52 years? Deceased had been in indifferent health for the past 12 months, but his death was not expected. He had resided in Reefton for the greater part of his life, and was at one time a member of the Inangahua Silver Band. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and one daughtei.

An arrival at Wellington from England by the lonic yesterday was Dr. W Traill Thomson. He left Waitaki High School in 1898, and entered the Dunedin University, subsequently qualifying at King’s College Hospital, London. During the War he was a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and then practised at Learnington until about four years ago, when he sold his practice and went to live at Warwickshire. Dr. New Zealand in 1899/ and has not been back since then. Last year he wa presented with the of the Hospital of St. John, of Jerusalem, by the King.-Press Assn.
