CRICKET
WOODFULL—PONSFORD BENEFIT [BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN.—COPYEIGHT;] (Recd. Nov. 16, 8 a.m.). MELBOURNE, November 15. The cricket match, Australia v. The Rest, begins to-morrow, as a testimonial to Woodfull and Ponsford, who will receive the proceeds. Woodfull’s team comprises most of the Australian 1934 Test players, and Ponsford’s other leaders in Australia. O’REILLY AND BIG CRICKET SYDNEY, November 7. Although the Test match bowler, W. J. O’Reilly, has told New South Wales cricket officials that he does not intend to be available fbr any first-class matches this season after he has taken part in the Woodfull-Ponsford testimonial match at Melbourne hopes are held that he will not adhere to his decision. O’Reilly, who is a school teacher, feels that he has given too much time to cricket, and that in future he should consider his professional career first. He has had one or two tempting offers to enter upon a business career; and cricket administrators are hopeful that O’Reilly will continue in big cricket, to the benefit of the game in this State, and also to his own benefit. He has expressed his keenness to play grade cricket, and will appear with the St. George Club, probably early in December.
