SCOTT-PAINE TO RETIRE

Mr Hubert Scott-Paine, the famous British speed-boat ace, announced his intention of retiring when he returned here to-day from his recent triumphs at the international speedboat races in Venice, where he raised the world’s speed record held by Miss Britain 111. from 100.13 m.p.h. to 110.11 m.p.h. “1 have had all the breaks that any man can expect to have,” he said at a luncheon in his honour, “and I am going to give up now. You can carry on too long at the game, and I feel that I shall never be able to put up a better show than I have done.” He added that in 25 years he had spent £60,000 on motor-boat racing, and that Miss Britain 111. had 1 cost him £28,000.
