[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CYCLIST KILLED. CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. Riding a bicycle in St. Martin’s this evening, W. P. Cole, 27, was struck by a motor car and received severe head injuries from which he died soon after admission to hospital. CHILD DROWNED. FOXTON, November 10. The four-year-old son of Mr A. McGregor was drowned in a well near their home at Matakaraka. The child, who had been playing with three others, was found missing. A search disclosed the body floating in the water. Life was extinct. SURF BATHER RESCUED CHRISTCHURCH, November 9. After being in peril for almost half an hour. J. Baldwin,,of Opawa, a young man, was rescued from the sea at Sumner this afternoon. Another bather who went to his assistance also got into difficulties, and two teams< from the Sumner Life Saving Club had hard struggles in bringing the men ashore. Both were exhausted, and had to be resuscitated.
ALLEGED GAMING. DUNEDIN, November 9. At the Police Court this afternoon, before Mr W. H. Bundle, S.M., James Pearson was charged with keeping a common gaming house at Opoho. In asking for a remand, ChiefDetective Young said that the accused had just been arrested at his house, and he desired a remand in order to place all the facts before the Court. The remanded was granted until Monday, bail being allowed, in accused’s own surety of £5O. William Prince was charged, at a later sitting of the Court, with keeping a common gaming house. Accused pleaded not guilty. ChiefDetective Young said that accused had just been arrested, and he asked for a remand for a week. The remand was granted until November 16, bail being allowed in accused’s ojvn recognisance of £ 50.
