MEETING

HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL [our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA. November 10. The ordinary meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening; present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, Jas. King, Dr. Teichelrnann, G. Heinz, A. C. Armstrong. Apologies for non-attendance ■were received from Crs. J. Cuttance, A. R. Elcock, and A. J. Thompson, all out of town.

The following correspondence was received: —

Mr. J. A. Murdoch and others, asking that the footpath on the west side of Sale St., between Stafford and Weld Streets, be attended to, as it is in a very unsatisfactory condition. —To be attended to. Prime Minister, acknowledging Council’s protest against the provisions contained in Secs. 17, Subsections 2 and 3 of the Transport Law Amendment Act, 1933, and stating that the resolution will receive the fullest consideration.

Main Highways Board, forwarding particulars of standard rates of pay for Department workmen, from April 1 last, and that such* increased rates will be admissible in claims for highways work actually performed as from April 1. 1934.

Secretary, Local Government Loans Board, Wellington, advising that no application had been received from this Borough under the local authorities Interest Reduction and Loans Conversion Act, 1932-33, in respect o fthe conversion of the debt of the borough, and asking whether the scheme is in progress. (N. 8. The Town Clerk has replied furnishing the particulars of the borough’s debt, and pointing out that it is not necessary for the borough to convert any of its loans.) The treasurer’s report showed receipts £419/19/10, payments £I4G2 5/-, cr. balance £390/7/5; accounts amounting to £458/4/11 were passed tor payment. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee the librarian’s salary was increased by £lO per annum. The foreman’s report showed an average depth in the reservoir during the past month of 11 feet 3 inches. The usual resolution respecting the registration of dogs was passed. The fees for cattle and sheep dogs were fixed at 2/6, and for “others” 10/- per . annum.
