A Gazette notice issued to-night con tains a return of the estimated popu lation of the Dominion proper at September 30, as follows:— Total population including Maoris— Males .. .... .. 790,887 Females 760,898 Total 1,551,785 Population excluding Maoris — Males 752,551 Females .. .. .. 725,519 Total! 1,478,070 Maori population— Males 38,336 Females 35,379 Total 73,715 North Island, including Maoris^— Males 516,530 Females 487,638 Total 1,004,168 South Island, including Maoris — Males 274,357 Females 273,260 Total 547,617 During the quarter ended on September 30, the population showed an increase of 2830, compared with 2420 for the corresponding quarter last year.
