CROQUET
MAKURA CLUB’S OPENING The Makura Croquet Club’s season was officially opened yesterday afternoon by the President, Mrs Tennent, the first ball being played by Mrs McKay (Vice-President). The weather was brilliant and the lawns in excellent condition, reflecting credit on the green-keeper, Mr. Malham. There was a good attendance of members and visitors, and afternoon tea was served. During the afternoon a framed photograph of Mrs Whibley (winner of the Gold Medal competition), with the Captain and committee was presented by Mrs Tennent, and hung in the pavilion. The various competitions were won by Mesdames A. Smith and J. W. Hannan (Hurry Scurry), Mrs A. Smith (ball on peg), Mrs Mercer (golf croquet), Mrs McCorkindale (putting). The following is the draw for the first round of the Peace B,owl match. Miss Sheedy v. Mrs Moss. Mrs Crooks v. Mrs McCorkindale. Mrs Tennent v. Mrs Warnes. Mrs. R. Smithy v. Mrs Owen. Mrs James v. Mrs Robertson. Mrs McKay v. Mrs Fogarty. Miss Hambleton v. Mrs Davies. Mrs Mercer v. Mrs Whibley. Byes: Mrs Coburn, Mrs Haglund, Miss Pratt, Mrs Hogg, Mrs Reynolds, Mrs Herring, Mrs A.
