AUCKLAND, September 14. One of the cleverest safe-breaking jobs in Auckland in recent years, was discovered to-day, at the premises of Hughes and Cosser, wine and spirit merchants. The burglar scaled a downpipe. walked across two adjoining buildings, before entering the warehouse through a skylight. He then broke open the strongroom and with dynamite blew the safe open, so skilfully that the door could be closed afterwards. He obtained about £ll. WELLINGTON, September 14. The case in which the Palmerston North City Council is asking the Supreme Court for an injunction against the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, was continued to-day. Mr Richmond, for the Board, contended it was the duty of the Board, under economic necessity, to apply its power of special rating to such part of the district as could bear it. It would have been an absolute failure of duty on the part of the Board to allow its consumers to disappear, because they were not willing to resort ( to a separate rate. He contended that j by obstinacy and selfishness, Palmerston was endeavouring to ruin the Board. The truth was hot that there was any dishonesty or desire to . break the contract. The truth was that farmers wished for the best for all and Palmerston refused. Argument was concluded, and the decision was reserved.
