DERBYSHIRE VANQUISHED

FLEETW’D SMITH BOWLS WELL

SLOGGING IN THE RAIN

[BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.

(Received July 14, 8 a.m.) LONDON, July 13

The weather was dull and sultry. Overnight rain had not affected the wicket, but the ball was greasy, consequently in the first half hour, the batsmen were not troubled against Wall and Ebeling. Fleetwood-Smith displaced the latter. Storer attempting Io hook the ball, was caught at square leg by Fleetwood-Smith. Storer batted solidly for 130 minutes. A few overs later, Smith attempted a big hit, but snicked to Barnett, who not only caught, but stumped him. Jackson was well caught at

first, slip by Ebeling, after a poor showing. Skinner was timid against Fleet-wood-Smith, and was soon out, and with the damp wicket cutting up, the lefthanders worried the batsmen. Bromley had Ford snapped at the wicket, then Fleetwood-Smith got Worthington leg before. Mitchell was bowled in the same over. Copson beautifully straight-drove Bromley for six, and was stumped in the same over. The innings lasted three hours. Requiring thirty runs for a win, Brown ami Bromley opened against an irregular pair, Jackson and Ford. Play was continued in steady rain in order to avoid play after lunch. Slashing at everything, Brown was bowled by a half volley. Bromley and Bradman soon got the remainder of the runs from gift balls. Scores:
