OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “The Love Contract” featuring Winifred Shoe -'er and Owen Nares, will be finally screened to-night. WEDNESDAY ONLY. “The Medicine Man,” featuring Claud Allister, as a silly ass, and a stirring drama “Called Back” will be screened at Wednesday’s matinee and evening only. COMMENCING THURSDAY. i The cast of “Dinner at Eight,” to he screened for a season commencing Thursday next reads like a “Who’s Who” of- filindom. Marie Dressier plays the role of Carlotta Vance, the passe actress, a new role for Marie, but one in which she excels. John Barrymore appears as the brokendown movie actor, and brother Lionel has a very different role as Oliver Jordan, head of a big shipping concern facing bankruptcy. . V/allace Beery is cast as Dan Packard, a bluff unscrupulous mining magnate, and Joan Harlow plays his ill-mannered but beautiful cabaret-girl wife. Billie Burke plays Millicent Jordan, who arranges the fateful dinner that brings these widely different guests together. Lee Tracy achieves a distinct success as Max Kane, the theatrical agent, Edmund Lowe as the philandering doctor and Karen Morley as his understanding wife make a charming couple whilst Madge Evans receives' her greatest opportunity as Paula Jordan. At Wallsend to-night, “Devil’s in Love” will be screened. At Hokitika to-night “Dinner at Eight” will be screened. BENEFIT BALL. A Grand Benefit Ball will be held in Jack’s Hall, Kotuku, on Saturday night, under the auspices of the Kotuku Club. Excellent arrangements for an enjoyable night have been made.
