MONUMENT TO U.S. MORALE

300 FT. COLUMN PROPOSED. NEW YORK, April 5. It. is proposed to erect a groat, monument to commemorate “the splendid morale of the American people during the depression.” A committee of architects has sent to President Roosevelt a design for such a memorial, to be erected by all the forty-eight States. Mr. Severin Stockmar, of New York, llio designer, slates llrnl Ihe monument will consist of a cylindrical column 300 ft. in height. Three groups of symbolic sculpture will be at the base, which will be set in the centre of a circular reflecting basin .surrounded by an avenue of trees. The sculptures will represent: The failure of financial institutions; The shortcomings and corruption of political organisations, ami The breakdown of business and farming.
