YOUTH GETS £2,500. [per press association.) "WELLINGTON, May 11. The jury to-day awarded Russell James Lewis Hayston, aged 20 years, and his father, Percy Hayston, of Upper Hutt, £2,500 general and special damages against Herbert Powell of Lower Hutt, taxi owner.
Hayston, for whom action was taken as a minor, was severely injured by a taxi. Defendant was the owner, but not the driver of the taxi. He admitted liability, and the only question for f the jury was the quantum of damages. The suit was for £3,000.
COLLISION SEQUEL. AUCKLAND. May 11. A claim for damages arising out of a motor collision, on May 27 last year, was heard before Mr Justice Herdman and a .jury in the Supreme Court. The plaintiff was Harald Victor Hunt, draper’s assistant, who brought a claim against Lawrence Collins, a salesman. The total claim was for £2,413. A collision between the plaintiff's motor cycle and the defendant’s motor car took place on the waterfront, road. The plaintiff alleged that it was due to the defendant’s negligent driving. The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff of £750 general damages, in addition to special damages agreed upon. Judgment was, therefore, entered for plaintiff for £ll5O 18/6, with costs and expenses.
