WOMAN SPY CONDEMNED
GERMAN MELODRAMA. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] BERLIN, May 11. A secret Military Tribunal has sentenced to death Baroness Benita Von Berg, and has sentenced Captain George Von Sosnowski to twenty years’ imprisonment on charges of military espionage. The German press ignores the case, though it was the sequel to the most sensational post-war spy case. Baroness Benita Von Berg was a fascinating society woman, and a member of the Hohenzollern entourage. Her husband was a distinguished Russian air ace in wartime.
Captain Von Sosnowski, a brilliant Polish soldier, socially prominent in Berlin, is a well-known racehorse owner and motorist. . The Captain and the Baroness, and scores of others who are well-known in theatrical film circles, were arrested in February on charges of espionage for Poland, Germany’s newest ally. The majority of those arrested, however, were released.
