, Mr. S. Compton, who underwent an operation at the Grey Hospital, yesterday, is progressing satisfactorily. Miss Hilma Cates, who has been visiting Greymouth, left, to-day, on return to Ashburton. Mr. G. Booth, who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. F. G. Simpson, Teremakau, returned, to-day, to Christchurch. < Miss C. James will arrive, this afternoon, from Christchurch, on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs I. A. James, Cowper Street.

Mr John McKenzie, of Cobden, who was injured at the north tip-head on ■ Thursday afternoon, passed a fairly comfortable night at the Grey Hospital, but his condition is still serious.
