WESTLAND MINING EXECUTIVE [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, April 16. The mining executive of the Westland County Council met on Saturday evening: present: Messrs. J. A. Murdoch (Chairman), R. Cox, M, Keenan, W. Jeffries, T. R. Chesterman, D. J. Evans. „ . ~n The Unemployment Board wrote regarding prospecting for reefs in the Ross area, stating that Mr. Tindall, Under-Secretary of Mines, was being conferred with in an endeavour to arrange a properly-equipped prospecting party for this area. The Board acknowledged plans concerning the prospecting area at Ross under the Board’s scheme, stating the matter was being discussed with the Mines Department before the plans would be returned' and notification for lodgment with the Warden signed. The Unemployment Board wrote asking the position regarding men who, it was hoped, would go off the subsidy early in this year. G. Sutherland forwarded list or gold bought from subsidised miners. The Unemployment Board wrote asking that all subsidised prospectors in this county be advised that the value of gold won is subject to the emergency tax. In assessing this value, prospectors may take into consideration the value of equipment and other necessaries and deduct this amount from the total value of gold won. The tax will be payable on the net amount. B. J. Bodden, application to prospect in Karangarua River.—No action taken. G. H. Honey, asking for reconsideration of application to join E. A. L. Wickes. —Granted for three months. A. Grant, stating that he is working claim previously worked by Browne at Duffers Creek, and asking that subsidy be granted.—Granted when eligible. . D. Walsh, application for consideration for subsidy to work at Bruce Bay.—Granted for three months and tent and fly on usual conditions. J. O. Freitas, asking for further consideration for driving claim at Rimu Flat.—Granted. D. Ryan, setting out costs incurred in driving tunnel at Rimu Flat and asking for further grant. —No action taken c. Mills appeared in person and was granted the subsidy. C. B. Ogilvie was also granted the subsidy to prospect in' the Hokitika gorge. A. Cain, Bruce Bay, asking for reconsideration of application. Granted (when eligible) for three months. S. C. York, application to be transferred to Humphreys Scheme to gold subsidy scheme- —Granted.
