REEFTON NOTES

[OUB OWN COBBESPONDINT.] REEFTON, April 14. Mr. and Mrs C. Carter, of the North Island, are visiting Mrs Carter s brother, Mr. S. Robinson, of Reefton Reefton lost one of its old residents yesterday, when the death of Mrs Margaret Mooney, of Bullet Road. The late Mrs Mooney was a native of Overton, Scotland, and 84 years of age. She had been a resident of New Zealand 55 years, having landed first at Green Island. After a short stay at that place she came to Denniston, proceeding thence toßiunner and then to Westport. After losing her husband in the Brunner disaster she settled in Reefton, where she had been a resident for 33 years. Two sons and four daughters survive her; also one brother, resident at Millerton, and a sister in the North Island.

A conference was held at Reefton between the ministers of religion, the Inangahua Silver Band, and the R.S.A., relative to the Anzac Day service. It was resolved that the service be held at the Princess Theatre, the President, of the R.S.A. to occupy the chair, assisted by the Chairman of the Inangahua County Council. After the Service, the gathering will assemble at the War Memorial, where wreaths will be placed and the Last Post sounded. For some considerable time the pupils and teachers and a strong committee have been busy making preparations for the Reefton District High School fair and yesterday afternoon the fair was declared open, at the Gymnasium Hall. Well-laden stalls made a fine showing, and good business was done.
