DAIRY INDUSTRY

PROPOSALS BEFORE CABINET. [PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, April 12. Proposals framed by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board, for assistance for dairy farmers, were placed before the Government by the members of the Board, to-day. In an interview this evening, the Prime Minister said that he was not in a position to discuss the nature of the proposals. Quite a lengthy discussion had taken place, and he had given an understaking that the suggestions would receive the consideration of Cabinet, and that a reply would be sent to the Board. Mr. Forbes mentioned that, in addition to the Dairy Board’s proposals, (he Government had several recommendations to consider from (lie conference held last month of those connected with the dairying industry. No decision of any sort had yet been reached. “Now that we have the recommendations of the Board and of the conference,” said Mr. Forbes, “we have all of the recommendations from the industry, and we can go ahead and consider the whole question.” When invited to comment on a report that the Government is of the opinion that the industry would be better served by a small Commission comprising men with business experience, taking the place of the Dairy Board, or at least acting in a consultative capacity to the Board, Mr. Forbes said that no such proposal had been carried by the Government. SOUTH AMERICAN MARKETS AUCKLAND, April 13. “It is certain that the Latin-Ameri-can countries will need more and more of New Zealand’s excellent products, and the possibilities of those markets are limitless,” said Senoi Simon Quiros, the newly appointed Consul for Panama, who arrived by the Rangitata today, and will have his headquarters in Auckland. He stressed the importance of Central and South America, and pointed out that Panama was at the world’s commercial crossroads, and would become a great point of entry.
