Donovan got a job to dig a well. When he had got down twenty-five feet he arrived one morning to find that the hole had caved in. When he recovered from his dismay, he had a brain-wave. He hung his coat and hat on the windlass and crawled into the bushes ‘ to wait. Passers-by, discovering the coat, concluded that a man was at the bottom. Help was obtained, and frantic toilers soon cleared the w<ell again. 1
