HOKITIKA NOTES

[OHB OWN CORRESPONDENT.! HOKITIKA, February 10. . As is the custom when one of their number gets married, the Hokitika Municipal Band serenaded Mr and Mrs R. W. Palmer last evening at their residence, Davie Street. After playing a short programme., the members were invited in, when the Conductor (Mr C. B. Ross) tendered the congratulations and best wishes of the members, and expressed the wish that his new state of life would not interfere with Mr Palmer’s band interests. Mr A. Parkhill, on behalf of the band, presented Mr and Mrs Palmer with an 8-day clock. Mr Palmer thanked members for honouring them and for their handsome gift. A couple of hours of conviviality followed, concluding with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.

The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Mr G. Perry (Mayor), Crs. Elcock, Armstrong, King, McGavin, Teichelmann. and Duff. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. Heinz, Stuart, and Thompson. The Municipal Association, T<ellingtcn, advised that the conference of delegates would be held at Wellington on March 14, and forwarding copies of the order paper.

The Department of Internal Affairs wrote intimating that Mr AV. C. Braddon, one of the Council’s members on the Hokitika Fire Board, had tendered his resignation, and asking the Council to elect some other person to fill the vacancy.—lt was decided to ask Mr Braddon to accept a further nomination for the position, and failing his consent, Mr T. W. Duff be appointed.

Mrs Rugg and Mr A. Stevenson wrote asking for domestic water services and permission to instal a septic tank on their respective properties. — The Council agreed to the requests on the usual conditions.

Mr P. Mulrennan applied for permission to fence and to use part of Tudor Street.—No objection, but the fencing to be done at the applicant’s risk.

The Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, wrote that the Grey County Council had applied to the .Minister of Transport to apportion the heavy traffic license fees for No. 12 District in accordance with No. 1 of the heavy motor vehicle regulations, und asking for a certified statement showing the appropriate expenditure in respect of roads for two years ending March 31, 1933. —Referred to the Town Clerk to furnish the information required. The Treasurer reported receipts for the month £246/15/10, payments £1029/15/11, District Fund Account debit balance £763/2/8. Accounts amounting to £172/9/7 were pass.ed for payment. The foreman’s report of works carried out during the month was read and received. The Abattoirs report for the month shewed stock slaughtered as follows: Ccws 28, heifers 35, bullocks 46, sheep 255, lambs 140, pigs 2, calves 3. Condemned—2 cows and 2 heifers. The Abattoir fees for the month were £7O 16/-, compared with £5B/16/6 for the cones pon ding month last ye ar.
