JUDGE’S WEEKLY TRESPASS

CANNOT BE PROSECUTED. Mr Justice Mackinnon, at Chester Assizes recently, explained the origin of the notice “Trespassers will be prosecuted.” He said that an Act was passed in the reign of George 11. making it an offence to trespass after a- warninghad been given. Landowners all over the land put up notices which constituted a warning. The Act had long been repealed, but the notice continued, although it could not be enforced. People know it cannot be enforced and that is why they do it,” ho added. “I trespass about once a week.”
