MECHANICAL HARE RACING

JUDGE TALKS OF ROGUERY. LONDON, December 6. Mr. Justice Swift, in the Leeds Court of Assizes, gave judgment for £215 in favour of a bookmaker against the owners of the Wakefield Greyhound Racing Stadium on a claim for money due for the hire of dogs. He said that the roguery exposed in the case was greater than anything he had ever seen before in any form of sport. After emphasising that he was referring only to the present case, Mr. Justice Swift said “The way dog’s names are changed, the way they run on licensed and unlicensed courses, and the way in which information is allegedly given, are perfectly disgraceful. If othiSr dog-racing- tracks in Great Britain are conducted like this, it is high time they were prohibited.”
