[PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] MOTOR CYCLIST KILLED. CHRISTCHURCH, December 19. D. C. Reid, 25, single, butcher, died in the hospital last evening, from a fractured skull, the result of his motor cycle skidding and overturning at the intersection of Colombo Street and Bcaley Avenue earlier in the evening. TRAMWAYMAN ROBBED. WANGANUI, December 17. A masked man armed with a revolver held up a motorman in the Wanganui Corporation tramway shed tonight and escaped with £3 in cash. Ther6 were only two men on the premises at the time, the motorman and the nightwatchman. The latter had just left the office and was away in the tramway barn when the hold-up took place. CONVICTION QUASHED. WELLINGTON, December 18. A conviction entered recently against John Paton Hardy, on a charge of stealing a woman’s cape, was quashed by the Chief Justice (Sir M. Myers) on the ground that the case was not proved. The case was of interest because after being charged, Hardy married a woman who previously had made a statement to the police concerning the cape, and a,s a result the police were unable to use the statement as evidence against him. PTOMAINE POISONING. AUCKLAND, December 18. As the result of eating cooked tongue, which is thought to have been contaminated,, a middle aged couple, Mr. and Mrs. A Neithe, of Church Street, Onehunga, were admitted tol Auckland Hospital, suffering from ptomaine poisoning. The tongue, which had been cooked at home, was eaten at lunch, and while working in the garden late in the afternoon, Mr. Neithe suddenly collapsed with severe pains. Medical assistance was obtained, and he was ordered to the hospital, but when the ambulance arrived, Mrs. Neithe was alsb suffering from the effects of poison, and both husband and wife were taken to the hospital. Their condition to-night was considered to be not serious.

SCHOOLBOY KILLED. AUCKLAND, December 18. Fatal injuries to the head were received by a pupil of St. Helier’s Bay School, Albert Leonard Tucker, aged 14, as a result of a collision between his bicycle and a motor car this morning. The boy, a son of Mr A. Tucker, had returned to his home at Walmsley Road only a few minutes earliei- with advice that he had passed his proficiency examination. The boy returned to his home after making an earlier visit to the school to learn the ex-j amination results, and was on his way to do an errand for his mother when the accident occurred. The car, which was driven by H. A. Horrocks, of St. Heliers, was travelling toward the city. The boy suffered severe cuts on the face, and also received serious head injuries. He was taken to Auckland Hospital, where his death occurred.
