COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING. [OUR own correspondent.] REEFTON, December 18. The monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council was held today. Present: Crs F. W. Archer (Chairman), J. B. Auld, J. O. Byrne, D. Panckhurst, T. R. Watson, W. ’Clayton, W. Blackadder, J. O’Regan. L. Reid wrote regarding water connection to dwelling situate Buller Road. —Clerk reported letter had been replied to. The Unemployment Commissioner and District Engineer wrote regarding Stevenson’s Flat Alexander Track. — Left to Engineer and Clerk for attention. The Hon. Secretary, Ikamatua Aero Club wrote regarding road access to aerodrome site. —Mr Clayton moved that the Engineer report on road access. Seconded by Mr Byrne and carried. The Engineer’s report was adopted. Mr Panckhurst moved and Mr Auld seconded that the Engineer be authorised to arrange for removal of water syphon pipes for town wmter supply. ” The Engineer was authorised to give attention to planking of bridge at Rosstown, and to attend to water tables on Buller Road. Mr Byrne moved that the pack track from Hukawai to Waiuta be attended to. —Seconded by Mr Clayton and carried. Mr Clayton moved that the Council advertise the fact that any person storing dangerous goods under the Explosives and Dangerous Goods Act in contravention of the Act on and after January 18, 1933, be prosecuted, unless they carry a license.—Carried. The Engineer was instructed to attend to repairs to crate near head of Keep it Dark Race on Reefton-Crush-iiigton Road. It was resolved that the Engineer arrange for the work of the Traffic Inspector during the h y period.

The Chairman referred to the death of Mr William Kirwan, and the loss the district had sustained. A resolution of.sympathy with the family was carried, members standing in silence.

Mr J. B. Auld moved, and Mr D. Panckhurst seconded, that the Council provide material for the provision of conveniences at the swimming, baths, and that £2/10/- be paid for material already jised.—Carried. It was resolved that the County office be closed from December 23, 1933, to January 9, 1934. The Chairman extended the season’s greetings to all Councillors, and to Hie staff.

HOSPITAL BOARD REEFTON, December 19. The monthly meeting of the Hospbal “Board was held last evening; present Messrs J. B. Auld (chairman), W. Clayton, T. R. Watson, J. O. Byrne, W. Blackadder, G. B. Mclnroe and W. F. Archer. Dr. Marshall, Medical Superintendent, was also present.

Mr. K. J. Holyoake, M.P., wrote in reference to interviewing the Unemployment Board, and stated that cancelled subsidy will be granted. Mr. 1 M. Fagan, M.L.C., wrote on the same matter. It was decided that letters be forwarded, thanking Messrs Holyoake and Fagan for their successful representations. The Unemployment Board wrote

stating that the matter of subsidy had been reconsidered, and payment approved. The New Zealand Labour Party appealed regarding the Holland] Memorial Hall, which it is proposed to erect at an estimated cost of £2,000. —Resolved to write that the Board was unable to contribute legally out! of their funds. ! I The Post and Telegraph Department !wrote regarding switching facilities [between the Waiuta Cottage Hospital land the Reefton Exchange, and submitting charges. It was decided to send a copy of the letter to the Waiuta Medical Association. The Public Trust Office, Greymouth, wrote regarding the estate of the late E. A. Thorn, and stating that an offer of £l5O had been made for the Westport property. Mr. Clayton moved and Mr. Archer seconded that the offer be accepted.—Carried. Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, Medical Officer of Health, Christchurch, wrote extending the season’s greetings and *

expressing appreciation of the co-op-eration of the Board. The Medical Superintendent reported for the month: Admitted 14, discharged 22; remaining 29; operations 5, anaesthetics 5, operations 3, X-ray 4, births 4. The question of X-ray fees was left ’ to the town members and medical superintendent to draw up a scale of ’ | charges and submit to the next meet«ing. ’ 1 Matron Gibson reported that Miss ' ] Lambie, Director of Nursing, and Miss I Buckley, Maternity Inspector, visited . | the Hospital on December 9. The day off per week to the nursing staff, which was discontinued during the busy . time in the hospital, recommenced on . December 1. The necessary clothing ' for the Ziman Ward patients had been purchased. The hospital staff held a dance on the 15th inst, the proceeds to provide Christmas gifts, decorations and Christmas cheer for the patients. She requested short leave of absence ' in January if suitable, she would be on call by ’phone if required. It was resolved that Matron Gibson be granted the leave of absence asked for, and that the thanks of the Board be conveyed to the staff for their efforts on behalf of the patients. The Chairman extended the season’s greetings, and congratulated members on their work during the year. The institution had, he said, a good name throughout the ‘district, which was a great pleasure to all concerned. The Board had also been a happy family. Messrs Archer, Byrne, Blackadder, Mclnroe, Clayton and Watson reciprocated the good wishes of the chairman, commenting upon the excellent work of both the chairman and secretary.
