LEAGUE FOOTBALL

ENGLAND WINS SECOND TEST.

fBY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

LONDON, November 11.

In the Rugby League test match, at Leeds, England defeated Australia by seven points to five. At half-time Australia led by five to two. The weather was crisp and spring-like. There was a record attendance.

The match drew an attendance of thirty thousand people. The gate receipts were £3937. There was a sensational opening, Sullivan giving England the lead with a penalty goal within two minutes of the start. From a similar offside infringement later, Brown failed to equalise for Australia. England’s forwards were the more successful in the scrums, and their backs carried out several fine passing bouts, penning the Australians in their own half. Brown stopped several dangerous movements. He, however, was unlucky, as he missed many chances with kicks at goal, which he would certainly have goaled if on his day. Sullivan’s defence largely assisted the Home Country, for the first time, in winning two successive tests. This game was a particularly hard one, with but little difference in the two teams.

The general opinion is that the Australians were unlucky to lose the Test, even the English manager stating that the better side lost.

England won, with a try in the last minute of play, after the Australians had held a 5/4 lead.
