WELLINGTON, November 7

Three detectives, this afternoon, executed search warrants under the Gaming Act, at the residence of William Charles Burge, 59, Pirie Street, and also at an office in the Bank of New South Wales Chambers, occupied by Arthur Law. They seized betting paraphernalia. Burge and Law appeared at the Police Court later, being charged with carrying on business as bookmakers. Both pleaded, guilty, and they were fined £250 each.

Detective-Sergeant Revell stated that both of the accused had been in business as bookmakers for a number of years, and that they were considered to be two of the most prominent in Wellington.
