RED SHADOW’S DOUBLE. WIN FOR HUON VOYAGE. [SPECIAL TO “STAB.”] CHRISTCHURCH, November 7. After two days of heavy rain, the weather cleared on Monday night, and overhead conditions were excellent for Trotting Cup day. The track was heavy for the opening events, but at the finish of the day’s racing the going was splendid. The Cup was won magnificently by the favourite, Red Shadow, and the Dominion Handicap, the richest, prize for trotters, was taken by Huon Voyage. REAL BELLE’S RECOVERY. The public started the day well by selecting Real Belle as the best of good things for the Spring Handicap. The mare was sent out an odds-on favourite and, though she made a costly break within the first quarter- of a mile, she gradually improved her position and won nicely. New Metford refused to go off, and Stanley Bingen went to a break quickly. The favourite led out smartly from Great Nelson, but she broke turning into the back, Great Nelson taking up the running from Mr Penalty and Nelson Ata. Mr. Penalty broke at the end of three furlongs, and Lough Guy joined Great Nelson in the lead. With a round to go, the order was Great Nelson, Lough Guy, Merce Bingen, Real Belle, Biddy Parrish (moving up fast) and Stand By. Down the back, Lough Guy broke and Biddy Parrish also left her feet. Real Bello challenged Great Nelson, who whs done with at the home turn. Real Belle was first into the straight from Lough Guy and Cannonball, and stayed on to beat Lough Guy by half a length. Cannonball was a length away, just ahead of Stand By, Worthy Queen, Garner and Stanley Bingen.

EASY FOR INDIANAPOLIS.

The promise of an interesting clash between Indianapolis and ' Taxpayer (who was in receipt of 36 yards) was not fulfilled, the Great Bingen gelding, who was disinclined to move in, losing all chance at the start. Indianapolis scored in champion style, the result not being in doubt with three-quarters of a mile to go. Taxpayer delayed the start, which was not a good one, and Editor and Some Guy opened out a four lengths break from Eureka Boy and Somerby. Eureka Boy led past the post the first time, with Editor, Somerby, Avernus, Sodium, Indianapolis and Blue Mountain handy. Indianapolis was moving fast on the outside, and he went up to Eureka Boy with three furlongs to go.The race was over. Eureka, Boy was beaten as soon as the straight was reached. Indianapolis paced home easily, and Some Guy just headed off Avernus. Blue Mountain finished strongly after starting slowly, and Taxpayer’s pace over the concluding furlong indicated that he would have run prominently. Editor failed to see out the distance, while George Rey, after a bad start, always tailed the field.

RED SHADOW’S CUP.

Presented with a clear run on the rails down the straight with a lap to go, Red Shadow joined Royal Silk in the lead, and this pair was not seriously challenged, the former winning from Royal Silk. They were bracket-

ed on the machine. Red Shadow was always a warm favourite for the Cup. His win was full of merit, as the pace was on all the way. The first mile was covered in 2.14, at which mark Royal Silk was setting the pace from Mountain Dell, Free Advise, Sir Guy, Kingcraft and Red Shadow. The favourite then commenced his run, and obtained a phenomenal clear run up on the rails. His supporters were comfortable, and when Harold Logan’s run, started four and ahalf furlongs to go, was not sustained round the home turn, they had every confidence. Red Shadow was driven a sterling race by J. Bryce, who saved a great deal of ground by bringing Red Shadow through on the rails all through the race. The race was not run to suit Harold Logan, who would have had to put up a sensational performance to win when giving Red Shadow twelve lengths start with half a mile to go. He finished close up fifth. Mountain Dell went a fine race, but he was unable to make any impression on Royal Silk and Rod Shadow in the run home. Satin King broke at the start and again during the. race, yet ho finished in front of Kingcraft, Wrackler and Sir Guy. Roi L’Or was never dangerous, and Free Advice was Unable to keep her handy position over the last half mile. Lindbergh had to cover extra ground, and was not a likely winner at any stage. Both Red Shadow and Royal Silk are owned by Mrs. M. Harrall. The win was immensely popular.

GOLD TINGE WINS WELL.

Always handily placed, Gold Tinge stayed on best in the Yaldhuj'st Handicap, to beat Kewpie’s Guy, with Silver D’Oro, who was the slowest to begin, half a length off.

Logan’s Pride and Arethusa led till four furlongs from home, when Kewpie’s Guy, Gold Tinge and Royal Again were their closest attendants. Royal Again dashed to the front, and the ( leaders commenced to tire. Royal' Again’s name was called on the bend, but he broke and gave an opening to, Kewpie’s Guy. He quickly had the measure of Silver D’Oro when she challengeo, but Gold Tinge outstayed the first named in the run home. Royal Again showed plenty of pace till he broke. Arethusa tired and Regal Voyage broke badly down the back the last time, after pulling hard throughout. Kewpie’s Guy had every chance, Colorado was pulled up at the end of a mile. Vesuvius was never dangerous.

IN GOOD POSITION EARLY.

The Dominion. Handicap early resolved itself into a four horse race, the winner being the Australian trotter Huon Voyage, who, from 60 yards behind, was with the leaders after half a mile.

He started very smartly, which assisted him to quickly reduce his handicap. Louis Bingen, a hot favourite, showed out from Kempton, Biddy Parrish, Todd Lonzia and Huon Voyage. Writer and Stanley T. failed to go away. The leading division had opened out a ten lengths break from the second bunch, headed by Olive Nelson, after four furlongs, and, when . Writer was pulled up at the end of a mile, only four were left in the contest. Louis Bingen’s three lengths lead was gradually reduced and with half a mile to go, Huon Voyage hit the front, and Todd Lonzia and Biddy Parrish moved up quickly. Huon Voyage was over a length clear at the topi of the straight. Todd Lonzia drew level,

but -when pressure was applied he broke, Huon Voyage going on to win by two lengths from Biddy Parrish, who came with a late run. Save for the place-fillers, the others were not in the race. Stanley T. was going well at the finish, although a long way back. EASIEST WIN OF THE DAY. The easiet win of the day was scored by Royal Drusus in the Riccarton Handicap. He started smartly, and was allowed to settle down till half the distance was covered, when he ran up to third position. He stayed there till the home bend, when he drew' out to win very easily from, the favourite, Prairie King. Although Prairie King was denied a passage through on the rails, at three stages, he was not going so. easily as the winner at the end. The last set back on the home turn stopped him momentarily, yet it is doubtful if he could have headed off Royal Drusus. A disappointment was Girvan, who had every chance. He. was tiring over the final quarter. Chenwood, who was the pace-maker, was done with at the same place. Pronto Bingen, who was slow to move, was prominent till Royal Drusus cleared out, and Erin’s Princess was coming on at the right end. However, none of the unplaced horses had a chance with the place-fillers.

ANOTHER TO GAY GORDON,

Gay Gordon enhanced his reputation by his win in the Victoria Handicap, for which he was a pronounced favourite. The smartest out, he was twice headed on the journey and, in the straight, he looked like being overhauled by Ciro, but he came again to score a good win. Gay Gordon showed the way to Ciro, Jolly Wave and Bracken for five furlongs, when John Jinks put in a. sensational run to take the- lead, and they were at the head of a closely bunched field with a round to go, the next in order being Raydus, Jolly Wave, Manoeuvre, Grand Canyon and Kelp, with Purser last but two. John Jinks quickly tired, and Raydus showed out for a short distance from Gay Gordon, with Purser coming fast on the outer, to run into second place at the home entrance. Ciro tackled Gay Gordon who responded handsomely. Raydus stopped as if shot. Master Rey was going good work at the finish. THE DOUBLE. Red Shadow covered himself with glory by winning the final event, the I-laglev Handicap, from a classy field. Red Shadow struck out smartly, and was always well -placed. Mountain Dell was displaced after making the early running by Brent Zolock. Red Shadow was in third place going down the back the last time, and once into the straight he camo through to win by a length and a-half from Mountain Dell, with Brent Zolock two lengths away. Sunny Morn broke up at the start,' and his running proved that he was unlucky in not going off. _ Red Shadow’s performance was a brilliant one, particularly as he was showing the’effects of his hard race after the Cup.
