GREY TECHNICAL SCHOOL

OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the Greymouth Technical High School Old Students’ Association was held at the school last evening, Mr I- E. Steel presiding over a good attendance. The following report, submitted by the Executive, was read and adopted: Our efforts during the year were mainly concentrated in the raising ot funds for the School Tennis Courts. In this connection we held a dance m Schaef’s Hall, which resulted in a profit of £5/18/6. Later on, a shop day was held in conjunction with the School staff, the proceeds amounting to £6/5/-. It was our intention to donate a further sum from the profits of our annual ball, but unfortunately the function this year in a small loss. As mentioned in the, last annual report, the Executive purchased a silver cup, to be known as the “Hutton Challenge Cup,” for annual competition in school athletics, the honour of being the first holc.er of the Cun falling to H. Mathieson. During the year our Cricket and Basketbail Clubs took part in the local competitions, and although not successful in winning any of their respective grades, nevertheless acquitted themselves creditably. We were unfortunate in losing a staunch supporter in Mr B. M. Davis (Science Master), who resigned from the school staff to Lake up a position in the Seddon College, Auckland. The Association combined with the school in a farewell social at which a small presentation was made on behalf ot. the Old Students. The finances ot the Association are at present rather low, | but a dance will be held at the conclusion of the annual fete next month, when tlie whole of the proceeds will Lo devoted to the general fund of our Association- In conclusion, I wish to thank our Secretary for his good work on our behalf dining the year, also to Mr McLaren and the school authorities for the use of the school rooms for our meetings and socials. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr T. E. Coates; President, Mr Payne; secretary and treasurer. Miss T. Stewart; auditor, Mr E. L. Kehoe; executive committee: Misses R. Anderson, B. Steer, M. Tennent, Messrs I. E. Steel, A. Baldwin, and L. Abbie. The annual subscription wag fixed at 2/6,. the same as last year. It was decided to co-operate with the school in running the annual fete on December 13, tynd ! to hold the usual dance in the United pavilion on that night.
